What is Dance Movement Therapy?

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a unique form of therapy that uses movement to explore emotions, release stress, and foster self-awareness. Unlike traditional talk therapy, DMT engages the body and mind together, helping individuals express feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Through guided movement, DMT can enhance emotional well-being, reduce anxiety, and support personal growth and change. No dance experience is needed just a willingness to explore movement as a tool for self-discovery.

Personalised approach

Every individual is different, which is why I take a personalised approach to Dance Movement Therapy. My one-on-one sessions are designed to meet your unique needs, helping you reconnect with your body, process emotions, and navigate life’s challenges in a way that feels natural to you.

Before beginning therapy, we start with an initial consultation, where we discuss your goals, challenges, and how movement can best support you. This ensures that every session is tailored to your specific journey, whether you’re looking to manage stress, work through emotional blocks, or create meaningful change in your life.

Strengthening connection

Movement is a powerful way to communicate, especially when words fall short. My couples and family sessions use Dance Movement Therapy to foster connection, trust, and understanding. Through guided movement exercises, partners and family members can develop deeper emotional awareness, improve nonverbal communication, and build stronger, more supportive relationships.

Whether you’re seeking to enhance intimacy, resolve conflicts, or simply create meaningful moments together, DMT offers a unique and transformative way to reconnect.

  • Not at all! Dance Movement Therapy isn’t about learning choreography or performing - it’s about using movement as a way to express emotions, release tension, and connect with yourself. There’s no right or wrong way to move, and every session is tailored to your comfort level.

  • Each session is unique and designed to meet your individual needs. We may start with a conversation to check in on how you’re feeling, followed by guided movement exercises that help explore emotions, reduce stress, or improve body awareness. Sessions may include elements of mindfulness, breathing techniques, and creative movement, but everything is adapted to what feels best for you.

  • DMT provides a nonverbal way to strengthen connection and communication between partners or family members. Through guided movement exercises, you can explore trust, emotional awareness, and how you interact with one another in a safe and supportive space. It’s a great way to improve relationships, resolve tension, and build deeper understanding - without relying solely on words.

  • Online Dance Movement Therapy sessions take place via video call, allowing you to participate from the comfort of your own space. Before we begin, I’ll guide you on how to set up a comfortable area where you have some room to move. Sessions will include a mix of conversation, guided movement exercises, and mindfulness techniques, all tailored to your needs. Even through a screen, movement remains a powerful tool for self-expression, stress relief, and personal growth.

  • The frequency of sessions is entirely based on your personal preference and what feels right for you. However, to facilitate real change, I recommend committing to at least six sessions. This allows enough time to explore movement as a tool for self-expression, work through emotions, and notice meaningful shifts.

Sessions can be scheduled at a pace that feels comfortable and doable - whether that’s once a week, every two weeks, or once a month. The most important thing is to find a rhythm that supports your journey.
